Our History

Members of St Denys Church have worshipped God, and served the villagers of Stanford in the Vale for over 800 years.  Today’s congregation is proud to follow in a line of succession of service, and to introduce in this simple leaflet, how we may serve you.

Baptisms & Thanksgivings

We welcome enquiries from anyone living in the Parish.

Weddings & Renewal of Vows

We welcome enquiries from anyone living in the Parish, or with a Qualifying Connection to the Parish.

Children & Young People

We have very close links with the village Pre-School and our Church School, where the Vicar leads a weekly service, and members of the church perform ‘Open The Book’ Bible stories.  Pupils come to church termly for special services and every Christmas, all the school productions are performed in church.

Families

Denys@4 is an informal, relaxed service for all the family, held in the Church at 4pm, every Sunday. It is a great opportunity for the whole family to gather together for ‘church – but not as you know it!’.  Once a month we share a meal together, and on the other weeks, there’s always plenty of cake, biscuits and drinks!

The CAP Money Management Course for families has been hosted in the village in the past and we are looking to run this again at Denys@4, as party of our holistic support for families.

A Marriage Course is offered, in partnership with other local churches.

Lonely and Isolated

Church members are actively engaged in the village through the Chatterbox  and the monthly Social Lunches.  Our Saturday Open House (10am-noon) provides a helpful point in the week for many lonely people (and others) to meet villagers over a free cup of coffee, and cake!

We also offer a Telephone Support Line where those who feel lonely/isolated can, for a season, request a weekly telephone call from a church member for a chat.

Transport

Our team of DBS-checked volunteers are available to take villagers to Hospital/GP appointments (and other visits) where public transport is not convenient.

Bereavement

The Vicar is actively engaged with supporting individuals and families who have been bereaved.  As a CRUSE-trained Bereavement counsellor with over 25 years’ experience, he is always happy to help. We also host a Bereavement Service in November, every other year, to support families.

Exploring Christianity

For those wanting to explore Christianity, the Start/Alpha Courses is ideal, and our monthly For Men Only nights, enable men to meet and debate matters of faith, ethics and philosophy – oh, and drink good beer!

Our Four Values

As a Church we have FOUR key Values:-

Deeper Into God (Worship & Prayer)

Deeper into Fellowship (developing and modelling Christian community)

Deeper Into our Villages (service & evangelism)  and,

Deeper Into God’s Creation (through responsible environmental stewardship and practice). We are a registered Eco-Church.
